Turn by turn directions for your tailored vehicle coverage.

Have you ever seen 250/500/250 and wondered what it meant?  These numbers are liability limits.

•   The first number (250) means $250,000 is the maximum coverage for bodily injury liability for one person injured in an accident.

•   The second number (500) means $500,000 is the maximum coverage for bodily injury liability for one accident/incident.

•   The third number (250) means $250,000 is the maximum coverage for property damage liability for one accident/incident.

100/300/100 limits were typical in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s but with the increase in medical costs, more drivers are choosing higher limits such as 250/500/250.  You may be surprised at the small cost for the additional protection.

Liability Insurance

Bodily injury liability insurance is coverage for other people's injuries or death that you are responsible for. Bodily injury liability coverage can also provide legal defense if another person in the accident files a lawsuit against you.

Property Damage

Covers you if your car damages someone else's property. Their car is most common, but it could also be a fence, a house or any other property damaged in an accident. It also provides you with legal defense if another person files a lawsuit against you.

Uninsured Motorists Coverage

More than 17% of Minnesota drivers are uninsured, even though it’s illegal.  Uninsured motorist’s coverage protects you against them.

If you are involved in an accident where the other driver does not carry insurance, you may be able to turn in a claim and the insurance company would then pay you if the other driver was uninsured.

Under-insured Motorists Coverage

Many drivers operate vehicles with state minimum insurance coverage - as low as 30/60/10.  Under-insured motorist’s coverage protects you against them.

If a driver hits your car and does $15,000 damage but only has $10,000 property damage coverage, your insurance company may reimburse you for the difference between the coverage and the damage incurred in the accident.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

PIP can help offset costs such as medical bills, lost wages, even rehabilitation and funeral costs.

Personal injury protection is also called “no-fault” coverage.  Regardless of which driver was at fault, some of the medical expenses for the policyholder may be covered by insurance.

This may include medical treatment of the injuries you incurred, if you’re injured as a passenger in someone else’s car or if you were injured as a pedestrian.

PIP Stacking

If you have more than one vehicle insured with the same insurance provider, you may be able to stack coverage for a small additional premium. Stacking combines the coverage from each insured vehicle in the case of an accident involving one of them. Using the example of $20,000 minimum coverage, if you have two vehicles, you will have $40,000 to draw from for PIP coverage after an accident. With three cars, coverage increases to $60,000.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive insurance is the coverage that pays for damage caused by covered events other than collision with another vehicle.  Without comprehensive insurance, you may have to pay to repair damage that results from vandalism, theft, animal collisions or hail damage.

In Minnesota, you may protect glass on your vehicle from cracks, chips or breakage with no deductible.

Collision Coverage

Collision insurance helps to repair your vehicle if you are at fault in a covered accident or you are a victim of a hit and run.

Umbrella

The smart, easy way to protect your wealth, your family and your future.

Today's society is a litigious one, even small mishaps can result in large lawsuits.  If a large claim is filed against you that exceeds the limits of your home or auto policy, an umbrella policy helps to cover you above and beyond the limits of those policies.

Umbrella policies are quite affordable and are a great way to protect both personal and commercial assets.  Umbrella policies can help cover legal fees, settlement costs, and other expenses for covered losses, along with coverage for situations not covered by your underlying policy, such as libel and slander.

Umbrella insurance provides protection for covered situations such as: car accidents, accidental falls or other injuries on your property, swimming pool or home playground injuries, accidents involving your ATV, snowmobile, boat or personal watercraft, dog bites, golf course injuries and libel, slander or invasion of privacy claims.

A common question is: "How much of an umbrella do I need?"  The answer can be complex.  In the past, many people purchased $1,000,000 and felt that was adequate.  An umbrella policy, if used in a lawsuit situation, could need to cover medical claims, salaries, and pain and suffering.  Today, it’s common for a client to carry an umbrella closer to their family’s net worth.
